Local Adventure: Night-Time Stroll of the Monuments

Local Adventure: Night-Time Stroll of the Monuments

In the continued spirit of being a tourist last weekend, my friend and I continued to explore the DC area. Except this time was in a different light. Literally! I have only done this one other time, and somehow, I always forget the time of day can make a big difference in some of these adventures.

Want a different vantage point? Visit the monuments at night!

We started at the Washington Monument, which is currently closed for renovations. The grounds surrounding the base of the monument were closed off with fencing, but will reopen in Spring 2019 (according to my research yesterday about going up in the monument). From there, we walked to the WWII Memorial. At night, this memorial gives me an eerie sense of peace – it is an odd feeling. From the columns of each state, we walked the Reflecting Pool, up to the Lincoln Memorial. As we casually walked back to the car, we stopped by the Korean War Memorial.

There were plenty of other memorial/monuments to see, but it was getting a tad chilly and we weren’t dressed appropriately – DARN, this fall weather. I am not ready for it!

DC seems to be a city that does sleep, but the LOVE of the city is always SO vibrant! I was expecting far less people at night, but there were still tons of people visiting the memorials and taking pictures of the surrounding area. It was absolutely captivating <3

Things to consider:

  • Switch up the time you visit the monuments. It offers a different viewpoint of our nation’s history and a rediscovered look!
  • At night, there are far less people bombarding the area.
  • Seeing DC, in different lights and/or temperatures, NEVER gets old.

STAY TUNED TO MY FUTURE ADVENTURES – THERE WILL BE MORE VERY SOON!
